Up to what node version does 0.0.5 work with? Is it safe to upgrade the node version on production servers from 0.12 to the latest node?

I’m sure you mean 0.5.x. 
0.5.x is compatible through nodejs 6.x. CentOS surprise-upgraded our clients, so we were very keen to make sure that worked! appy now depends on an oh-ten-bc that monkeypatches newer versions of Node.js just a little to supply backwards compatible versions of a few things. But there aren’t really all that many bc breaks.
